The P1 Interim Use Project, completed by Ford Civil Contracting, represents a comprehensive effort to enhance parking capacity and pedestrian connectivity at Sydney Airport while integrating a range of essential supporting works. The project’s primary components included the construction of an on-grade car park accommodating approximately 500 public spaces and a covered pedestrian walkway was also developed to create seamless connectivity between the terminals and the PPU, P2, and P3 car parks, significantly improving accessibility and convenience for airport users.
Supporting these main elements, the project involved a series of preparatory and complementary works to ensure the site’s readiness and long-term functionality. These included the preparation of a dilapidation report to document pre-existing conditions, service identification to map and manage existing utilities, and minor demolition and tree removal to clear the site. Earthworks were undertaken to prepare the ground, followed by the installation and relocation of essential services. Concrete footpath pavement works provided durable and accessible pathways, while signage and line marking ensured clear navigation throughout the site. Lighting installations enhanced safety and usability, and the inclusion of street furniture improved comfort for users.
Landscaping works were also carried out to elevate the overall aesthetic and create a welcoming environment, blending functionality with visual appeal. Despite the tight time constraints, Ford Civil Contracting successfully delivered the project through meticulous planning, efficient resource management, and close collaboration with all stakeholders.
