DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
Ford Civil was engaged to deliver remediation works at Bexley Public School. The site was found to contain asbestos, heavy metals—including lead, nickel, and zinc—and hydrocarbons. Given the sensitive nature of the operational school environment, Ford Civil programmed the works to occur during the school holiday period, with the majority of high- risk activities completed within a two-week window to minimise disruption to school operations and ensure the safety of students, staff, and the wider community.
The scope of works included the construction of a new driveway for safe access, vegetation management involving the removal of nominated trees and the implementation of protective measures for retained vegetation.
The main component was the remediation process which involved the controlled excavation and offsite disposal of asbestos-impacted soils, performed under stringent environmental and safety protocols. Upon successful removal, the affected areas were capped in accordance with the approved Remediation Action Plan (RAP), ensuring long- term containment and compliance with regulatory standards.
