Cockayne Reserve Upgrade, Castle Hill
Cockayne Reserve Upgrade, Castle Hill
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
Ford Civil was tasked with the upgrade of Cockayne Reserve. The scope of works included the construction of a shared pedestrian and cycle pathway, design and construction of pedestrian bridges, and the development of two new playgrounds at White Cedar Drive and Middleton Avenue. Passive recreational elements such as seating areas and landscaped surrounds were also delivered to create a welcoming and accessible green space.
A key feature of the project was the use of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials for both pedestrian bridges, selected in place of traditional steel to enhance durability, reduce maintenance costs, and minimise environmental impact. The 6-metre bridge spans allowed for streamlined installation in constrained conditions, reducing the project’s environmental footprint while maintaining safety and efficiency.
Extensive soft landscaping, along with targeted demolition and earthworks, was undertaken to restore and enhance the natural surroundings. A tailored water management plan was implemented during excavation to address stormwater runoff, flood flows, and groundwater challenges—ensuring both resilience and environmental compliance.
