DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

Ford Civil successfully delivered the Wentworth Point Civil Works Project, encompassing complex ground improvement, utility installations, and public domain upgrades across a 75,000m² Brownfield former landfill site on the headland waterfront peninsula. The works began with the installation of 1,350 Continuous Modulus Columns (CMCs) and a Load Transfer Platform (LTP) to provide structural ground stability. Bulk and detailed earthworks were undertaken within comingled contaminated materials (friable asbestos, heavy metals and hydrocarbons) in general accordance with the approved remediation action plan (RAP).
A key feature was the construction of 450 linear metres of sandstone revetment seawall, completed in alignment with tidal patterns to protect the foreshore. The project required careful planning due to its proximity to protected fig trees and an environmentally sensitive salt marsh zone. Utility coordination included installation of Sydney Water assets, stormwater drainage, ASP Level 1 electrical, NBN, irrigation, and private services. The scope also included shared path construction supported by foundation screw piles, and final landscaping works featuring paved areas, street furniture and an outdoor gym.
KEY FEATURES

  • • D&C for ground improvement using Controlled Modulus Columns (CMCs) and a Load Transfer Platform to minimise settlement on main access road and vehicle parking areas.
  • • Friable asbestos, heavy metal and hydrocarbon contaminated soils remediation and extensive bulk earthworks in line with RAP, environmental management plans and DA consent conditions. Remediation strategy based on cap and containment of surplus earthworks materials, stabilisation via lime treatment of geotechnically unsuitable materials and placement in containment cell with marker and capping layer.
  • • 450m sandstone seawall construction timed with tidal patterns to reduce marine impacts.
  • • Works conducted near protected fig trees and a salt marsh zone, requiring sensitive environmental management.
  • • Installation of sewer, water, stormwater, electrical, NBN, irrigation, and private services.
  • • D&C for shared path construction supported by screw piles to provide ground stability.
  • • Landscaping works including paving, street furniture and an outdoor gym to enhance public amenity.
